I deleted all files under "ModsPackages" folder (after backing it up), after which the game worked fine. I have been introducing the deleted mods back into the game several at a time until I finally narrowed it down to one of the two mods: "9 day pregnancy" and "teen marriage". I can live without both of these, but it looks like one of these is not compatible with 1.8 patch. Hope this helps others

Figured out how to fix "waiting outside"-forever bug and the one where the only interaction allowed was to be mean. It's been three weeks now, and they still haven't brought out a repair for all these faults? I'm having the exact same problem. I think that someone might be able to point out my error here though. So, just recently, I downloaded some custom content (ranging from hair to clothes) all from virus free sites (or so says Norton). I just downloaded yesterday the Resource.cfg file that enabled me to download those .package files. Anyways, I started downloading them like the apocalypse was coming (WinRAR is on a 40 day free trial), and I put all the .package files in the wrong area (C:Program Files/Electronic ArtsThe Sims 3GameDataSharedPackaged) Now, referring to the specified location in the last parentheses, I'm unsure as to whether the word "Packaged" was the word in that was used originally or not. I'm not even sure if that matters, but I'm trying to be as elaborative as possible. So, realizing that they were in the wrong area (thanks Wiki), I created the new folder "Mods", and under that folder had another folder as "Packages" where currently all my .packages await to be downloaded. Then I proceeded to move all the .package files into the new folder (where it was supposed to be). I recovered the original .package files that were originally in the Shared (reference back three parentheses ago) and placed them back where they needed to be. I also downloaded some .sims3pack files, but they've given me no trouble in the past. I figure that somewhere above I went wrong, but I'm no computer tech in the least, so I'm not sure where that could be. I spent an hour updating my Windows, and to no avail, it didn't work. None of the files have viruses, and everything looks as clear as it should be except for the little window popping up saying "Service initialization failed (0x039e8474)". Someone please help? I can provide more information if needed. --- Ah *bleep*...it seems that I have ran into another error. The 0x03938474 has disappeared, and now has been replaced with "Unable to Start Game (0x0175dcbb)" Help...I'm a desperate soul. --- So now I'm having an issue with even starting the game up. I've seen that this issue has previously been discussed before, but now there's an "error during startup: please see log" or something around those lines, and I'm sure as you all know, it freezes. I tried to go and play it through the Program Files folder, but no cigar. Ugh...I'm desperate. --- All right, so I uninstalled everything using that one guide that EA provided, and cleared the system fully of TS3. I removed Custom Content, and tried to play it...ended up getting the Error 0x039e8474. Put the CC back on, and still had the error. At least I bypassed the two errors before, but I'm back right at the beginning. I also used a CCleaner, so I don't think there's much else I can do except wait for the next patch, and who knows how long that will take? I'm obviously not the only one who is upset about this either." I posted this on a different board, and I'm not having much luck. I really don't think that cleaning the drive and what not is going to do anything. It's this darn patch and the stupid installation of that in-game store application. All we can do is rant and wait until the next patch comes out that will hopefully fix the game. Did anyone else not seriously notice that this problem arose a while back in like June? ------------------------------------------------------- I posted this on TS3 site...haven't heard any helpful responses, other than to clean my drive, which doesn't work, and before anyone even asks, my game is legit. Fifty dollars too legit if you ask me...

Ugh. I'm having the exact same problem. I think that someone might be able to point out my error here though.
