I deleted all files under "ModsPackages" folder (after backing it up), after which the game worked fine. I have been introducing the deleted mods back into the game several at a time until I finally narrowed it down to one of the two mods: "9 day pregnancy" and "teen marriage". I can live without both of these, but it looks like one of these is not compatible with 1.8 patch. It doesn't get past the loading screen. I have TS3 installed on another compuer without this patch (previous 1.7) and it runs fine. It's been three weeks now, and they still haven't brought out a repair for all these faults? Anyways, I started downloading them like the apocalypse was coming (WinRAR is on a 40 day free trial), and I put all the .package files in the wrong area (C:Program Files/Electronic ArtsThe Sims 3GameDataSharedPackaged) Now, referring to the specified location in the last parentheses, I'm unsure as to whether the word "Packaged" was the word in that was used originally or not. I'm not even sure if that matters, but I'm trying to be as elaborative as possible. So, realizing that they were in the wrong area (thanks Wiki), I created the new folder "Mods", and under that folder had another folder as "Packages" where currently all my .packages await to be downloaded. Then I proceeded to move all the .package files into the new folder (where it was supposed to be). I recovered the original .package files that were originally in the Shared (reference back three parentheses ago) and placed them back where they needed to be. I also downloaded some .sims3pack files, but they've given me no trouble in the past. I figure that somewhere above I went wrong, but I'm no computer tech in the least, so I'm not sure where that could be. I spent an hour updating my Windows, and to no avail, it didn't work. None of the files have viruses, and everything looks as clear as it should be except for the little window popping up saying "Service initialization failed (0x039e8474)". Someone please help?
